Born in 1860, Florence Farr was a member of The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, and author of a book on Egyptian Magic. She was a gifted psychic, an adept at scrying, interested in spiritualism, astral projection and divination, keen to make contact with other realms via her mystical experiments which she conducted in The Sphere Group (a side-group of the Golden Dawn). It is satirical, mocking, frivolous, and Florence claims to have written it as a ‘bit of a joke’. It is the kind of vengeance fantasy one may have if wronged. Farr's esoteric ideas also just peep through the story. Florence was eager for it to be promoted when it was first published.
